Boys deface, then damage, fence

A man from the 2500 block of Clarence said two boys in dark clothes damaged his rear fence. They used blue marker to write some initials, then broke a fence panel by kicking it. Police did not find the boys. The owner said he would remove the still-wet graffiti himself.

An officer saw a storefront window smashed out in the 6700 block of Cermak. The building owner had no idea who did it and called a board-up company.

A patrol officer near Windsor and Wisconsin reported finding a Metra shelter with two 6-by-6 foot windows broken out, possibly with a pelletgun.

A woman in the 1800 block of Harlem called police about a disturbance. She heard someone pounding on the door of the building, then heard glass breaking. Police arrived to find the side window of the front door apparently kicked in.

A concerned citizen called to report a broken glass front window of a business in the 7100 block of Cermak. An employee confirmed nothing was missing inside; a boardup service was called. Officers believe the damage was random rather than malicious.

A woman in the 2600 block of Euclid reported someone tossed a brick through her front window. Her son told police he is a gangbanger and thinks the brick may have been a gift from some guys in a rival gang. He could not --or would not-- say more than that.

Suspicious blood trail leads to neighboring property

Between 2 and 10 AM, somebody damaged a fence in the 2300 block of Gunderson. The offender must have used his bare hands, because a trail of blood led from the fence to a nearby driveway. The victim suspects a neighbor who socializes with gang members.

Departing boyfriend takes out frustration on window

A 24-year-old woman living in the 1200 block of Elmwood said she argued with her boyfriend, leading him to pack up and walk out. She lay down after his departure, only to hear a loud breaking noise. In the living room, she discovered that the 2 1/2 foot by 3 foot storm window by the front door was broken out. She also looked outside to see the boyfriend, age 28, hop in his car and leave, and she signed a complaint against him.

A 43-year-old man reported someone threw a brick through the front window of his house in the 1300 block of Kenilworth. The homeowner said he heard glass breaking at 3 or 4 AM, but just assumed his cat had knocked something over.

Rear window smashed at 19th/Elmwood

A 33-year-old Berwyn man said between 5:30 and 6 PM someone damaged his car, which was parked on 19th near Elmwood. The offender(s) appeared to have used some object to smash the rear window. Nothing from the car was stolen. A neighbor told the victim that a group of males had exited a white Cadillac-type vehicle during the half-hour in question and had looked around the victim's car.

An officer was flagged down by a 38 year-old man in the 6300 block of 26th St. The man reported his black '2007 Chevy had been parked overnight in that block, and someone had broken out the windshield using a cinderblock. The man said he assumed the offenders were patrons of a nearby tavern.

Garage door kicked in

A 68-year-old Berwyn man came to the police department to report someone had damaged his garage service door overnight in the 2700 block of Euclid. The door appeared to have been kicked open. The metal-clad door, deadbolt lock and wooden frame were all damaged.

Van vandalized

On patrol, an officer driving in the 1800 block of Oak Park Avenue saw a red Dodge Caravan with a broken rear side window. The officer contacted the owner; he checked the van and said nothing appeared to be missing.

A 25-year-old woman reported that overnight someone splashed orange paint on the right side and rear of her 2002 Chevy Cavalier, which was parked in front of her residence in the 2100 block of Ridgeland.

Tire-slashing vandal damages SUV

A 23-year-old woman living in the 1500 block of Harvey reported that overnight someone slashed the right front tire of her '99 Ford Explorer and also snapped off one of her windshield wipers.

HOUSE DEFACED WITH EXTENSIVE GANG GRAFFITI

A 44-year-old Berwyn woman called to report gang graffiti on her house. Officers found that someone had used black spray paint to mark "T 6 K" on the glass of the front storm door, on the front cement walkway, on the brick wall next to the front door and on the back door. There was even more on the east side of the garage. Footprints in the snow showed the offender had entered the property by jumping the back fence. The homeowner's daughter had been receiving threatening letters from a former friend who is known to hang out with gang members, and the mom said the graffiti resembled the ex-friend's handwriting.

Marble found in damaged window

A man in living in the 3000 block of East Avenue told police someone broke out a window on the front of his residence. The officer observed the storm window was indeed broken but the inner window only cracked. He also noted a small white marble between the two windows, likely used to do the damage. The victim said he believes the damage occurred in the last couple of days; he says he knows of no one who would have done it.
