An officer saw a man and a woman screaming in the street near Grove and Stanley. Both were highly intoxicated and became disrespectful and verbally abusive when confronted by the officer. The woman, Michelle Jackson of Riverside, and the man, David Guell of Berwyn, were ticketed for public intoxication.

The 911 board lit up with calls about a man standing in the middle of the Ogden/Oak Park Avenue intersection, causing cars to swerve to avoid him as he yelled gang slogans and made gang hand signals at passing cars and people. The man turned out to be a 17-year-old Lyons boy wearing jeans, a black baseball cap and no shirt. When police arrived they recognized him as a known gang member, and told him to put his hands on the hood of the squad car. At this, the boy threw down a plastic 375 ml bottle of Smirnoff vodka, now three-quarters empty. Both his breath and the rest of him smelled of alcohol; he wobbled when asked to stand still. Police called the boy’s dad, who responded, "And he was doing so good, too, staying out of trouble."
Once in the Berwyn lockup, the teen was verbally abusive to other prisoners. Asked for his address, he told police, "I’m not telling you shit." In his cell, the teen banged his hands against the door, yelling "I know my rights! I wanna call my dad! F---- the Berwyn police," and more in that vein. After carrying on this way for some time, the teen yelled "I need medical! I broke my hand!" The booking officer looked in his cell and saw blood on his hand, so the boy was taken to MacNeal Hospital. Seven other prisoners stated they had heard him screaming, using racial epithets, cursing, pounding on his door and yelling "I want my mom!"

Drunken headbutter causes disturbance

A disturbance call brought police to a convenience store in the 6300 block of Ogden, where an employee reported a drunken man had been asked to leave after being loud and abusive. The drunken man, a 32-year-old from Stickney, headbutted the employee; he was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

Drunk woman down

Police got a report of a woman on the ground at Stanley and Grove. The woman, age 30, smelled strongly of alcohol; she said she had consumed two whiskeys downtown, then come home on the train. After getting off the train, she fell into some woodchips and could not get up again. She was taken to MacNeal Hospital's emergency room.

Officers at Pershing and Maple handcuffed a man they spotted trying to pick up a facially bruised and bleeding woman from the ground. The man said they were married and had been out drinking and she fell and injured herself. The woman confirmed this. Both were extremely intoxicated. The husband told police that before they showed up, he had spent about an hour trying to prop the wife up enough to get her inside their residence, obviously without success. The woman was treated for her injuries at MacNeal.

An officer whose car was stopped at the Burlington tracks waiting for an eastbound commuter train to pass saw a 50-year-old Darien man walk around the lowered gate and stumble into the path of the train as it began to move. An alert citizen grabbed him and pulled him to safety. The officer then took custody of the highly intoxicated man. The citizen left the scene and the officer was unable to get his name.

The fight that never was

Officers responded to a call about a fight in front of Ivy Lounge, 6515 W. Cermak. Upon arrival at the bar, officers found nothing. However, they did locate a highly intoxicated 43-year-old Berwyn man in front of Miska's Liquors nearby. The man told police he was beaten up in Ivy Lounge; he was otherwise incoherent. Officers returned to the Ivy, and found no evidence of a fight having taken place there. The bartender said there was no fight; the guy was in the bar one minute and left.

Wobbly drunk appears in Berwyn by unknown means

A drunken Chicago man, age 24, waved down a Berwyn officer at 16th and Ridgeland and said he was lost. He was unable to stand unassisted and could neither recall getting to Berwyn nor how long he had been drinking. He reeked of booze and had red, bloodshot eyes, so he was taken to MacNeal Hospital for detoxification.

An officer reports observing a very drunk man at Windsor and Grove. The 27-year-old Cicero resident was placed into custody because he could not provide identification and because he "could not exercise due care." Once at the police station, it was determined that he was also wanted on warrants from both Cook and Will counties. He was cited for public intoxication.
