Felony charge for guy who persists in driving on revoked license

March 28, 2007, 8:08 AM
An officer saw a 1995 Jeep turn right onto East from 37th , blowing the stop sign on the corner. The driver, a 42-year-old man from the 3600 block of Gunderson, stated he has no license and no insurance. This was an understatement. Actually, his license had been revoked for driving under the influence. He was cited for disobeying the stop sign, no insurance, no seatbelt, and having a Cicero, not Berwyn, vehicle sticker even though he has lived in Berwyn quite a while. And because he also got one felony count of driving on a revoked license, which he earned by having four prior convictions for that offense.

Drunk driver hits stoplight, drives off with it

March 25, 2007, 10:31 PM
A reckless driver in a white GMC pickup heading northbound on Harlem at 23rd ,struck a turn lane sign in the median and continued northbound into oncoming lanes of traffic, abruptly returned to the median only to strike the stoplight at 23rd and Harlem, then head off west on Cermak. A driver who witnessed this followed the truck while calling 911. Police stopped the truck at Cermak and DesPlaines. The vehicle still had the traffic control post on its roof; the traffic lights had fallen into the bed of the truck.
The driver, a 45-year-old Stickney man, had only a Mexican ID and required a translator ; his license had been revoked for DUI. He refused chemical sobriety tests, but officers noted he smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, could barely stand up, and appeared sleepy and unsure of where he was. There was a half-empty 12-pack of Heineken on the front passenger seat. He was charged with driving on a revoked license, illegal transportation of alcohol, no valid insurance, improper lane usage, damage to property and damage to state property.

You can't drive a vehicle that fails the emission test. Or use alleys as streets, either

March 15, 2007, 7:20 AM
An officer observed a blue truck traveling northbound in the 2800 block of the Wesley/Clarence alley. The driver continued through the alley, crossing 27th. The truck, registered to Raul Leon of Chicago, had no brakelights, so it was stopped by police in the 2600 block of Clarence. The driver of the vehicle, 51-year-old Jorge DeJesus of Chicago, told police he had a suspended license. Actually, it was revoked. The truck's registration had been suspended for emissions test failure. DeJesus was arrested for the above and also cited for using the alley as if it were a street, which it isn't.

Gang member arrested for driving on revoked license

March 13, 2007, 5:30 PM
An officer on patrol watched a 1994 brown Chevy sedan ignore a stopsign and fail to signal a right turn at 18th and East. The driver, a 34-year-old man from the 1800 block of Clarence, was not seatbelted, nor was his passenger. He could show neither license nor insurance. A computer check on the driver showed his license had been revoked and he was an active gang member. He was arrested and the car towed.
