Police were called to Walgreens in Cermak Plaza, where a male juvenile was detained by store security because he had set off sensor detectors both going in and coming out of the store. The boy was found to have eight X-Box and PlayStation portable games from Circuit City, but no receipt. Police escorted the boy back to Circuit City, where the manager confirmed the games, total value $285.03, were stolen earlier that same day. Once at the police station, the boy complained he felt sick, stating he was diabetic and needed to eat. Police called paramedics, who took the boy to MacNeal for treatment, then called the boy’s mother.

Lottery thieves spread the wealth

The owner of Green Acres convenience store in the 2600 block of Ridgeland reported that some time between the 21st and 24th of March, an unknown person stole a complete book of 150 "Spin to Win" instant lottery tickets worth $285 from an unlocked drawer in the store. He said he had contacted the Illinois Lottery, which reported the tickets have already begun to be cashed in Cicero and Chicago.

Shoe thief returns to scene of crime

One of the shoe thieves from last Friday's Shoe Carnival gym-shoe caper -- two girls who filled out job applications before stealing three pairs of shoes -- actually showed up when the manager called her back for a job interview. The manager and police officers reviewed the surveillance tape showing the thieves in action before introducing the applicant, Sequence L. Jones, 17, of Summit, to Berwyn Police. Sequence conveniently wore the same red jacket she sported in the surveillance video, making her very easy to identify. The other thief is still at large.

Job application segues seamlessly into shoe theft

The security manager of Shoe Carnival in Cermak Plaza reported two young women came in to fill out job applications. But after they left, the manager saw broken security sensors from shoes lying in the aisle. A review of surveillance video showed a nice likeness of the two job applicants industriously breaking sensors off three expensive pairs of athletic shoes, then stuffing the shoes into one girl's backpack and walking out. The thieves are described as black and in their late teens. The manager plans to call the number on the application and invite them for a job interview, at which time police will make their acquaintance --if the phone numbers they gave really exist.

Canine Officer Niko makes an impression

An officer responded to a theft in progress at Shoe Carnival in Cermak Plaza. The officer observed 53-year-old Chicago resident Raymond Garvin running out of the store. Garvin then apparently thought better of it and ran back inside after seeing police and Canine Officer Niko. A pat down of Garvin revealed boots with the sensor torn off. Garvin volunteered the information that he stole boots to pay for heroin, and sure enough, when he was booked at the station, officers recovered a baggie of heroin from him.
