Gangbangers yell, make hand gestures at man

March 5, 2007, 11:55 PM
A report came in of a man being chased by a vehicle. Officers were dispatched to the 7-11 at 16th and East, where the victim, a 42-year-old Berwyn man, reported he was walking home when a tan four-door car, possibly a Chevy Impala or Pontiac Gran Prix, pulled alongside him. The car contained four Hispanic males who yelled gang slogans and flashed gang signs at the man, who said some of their hand-waving involved "throwing down" gang handsigns; this indicated the men represented some rival gang. The man said he then ran into 7-11 and called police. Police drove him home for safety, but saw no vehicle matching his description.

Postal carrier Tremeka Williams-Hicks, 31, of Oak Park, reported that while delivering mail she saw an Olds Cutlass pull up and two men emerge to yell at two other men walking in the park area at 22nd and Grove. One of the men produced a gun and fired a shot, at which point the woman took cover. While ducking out of sight, she heard a second shot. The men are described as Hispanic and around 17 years old. A resident of the 2300 block of Grove also reported hearing 4 to 5 popping noises that seemed to be gunfire. The investigation continues.
