A woman employed by the Vietnam Vets organization to collect used clothing donations from drop boxes was emptying one at 15th and Harlem, when she reached in and saw a doll on top of the bags. Looking more closely, she saw it was a real infant, dressed in a flowery pastel pink and blue snowsuit with the hood up. The baby had chubby cheeks, arms straight out to the sides, and the eyes were shut. The woman saw no movement and did not know whether the child was dead or alive. Stepping back from the bin, she phoned her boss. As she spoke to him, an unknown woman rushed up to her, screaming "That's my baby! Give me my baby!" while tugging on the employee's sleeve. The startled employee said, "I'm not doing anything, you don't have to pull me," but the stranger grabbed the baby, ran to 15th street and jumped into a newer gray Chevy Impala, whose driver could not be seen by the employee. The screaming woman is described as white, 5'7", 125 lb, with shoulder-length, stringy blonde hair, green eyes, jeans, white T-shirt and gym shoes, and a black skullcap. A couple of hours later, Berwyn police got a call from an anonymous male who claimed he knew the woman who took the baby; he said she worked at a local tavern, but would say no more lest he become "involved". Police are asking people to contact them with any legitimate information about this situation.
