Isn't it a school night, kids?

March 14, 2007, 11:36 PM
A gold sedan drove north on Oak Park Ave. from Public Works Drive with no headlights, so an officer stopped it at 27th and Wesley. A 13-year-old boy was in the driver's seat, and a 13-year-old girl in the passenger seat. She said it was her mom's car and the boy told her he was old enough to drive. Both kept asking the officer to "just let us go". On the way to the station, the girl kept asking the officer if he thought the boy was a good driver. The officer responded that he would have been doing better with his lights on. Back at the station, the girl admitted she was driving, but begged the boy to switch seats with her so she would not get in trouble. Both kids, Berwyn residents, were ticketed for being out past curfew; the girl got additional citations for driving without headlights and without a license. Her mom had to come pick her up at 12:50 AM; his mom came at 1:55 AM.
