Responding to a call from a concerned citizen about a suspicious car and people, an officer approached a silver 1997 Camry parked at 15th and Ridgeland by Havlicek Elementary school. A man and a woman were in the back seat. The officer tapped on the rear driver’s side door and asked for ID and that both step out of the car. The woman, age 37, said they were in the car because the 24-year-old man’s stepmom won’t allow her to visit. A second officer asked the pair if they possessed anything they shouldn’t. They said no, but refused to allow a car search. A third officer noticed a bag full of syringes, needles and other stuff used for heroin injection in plain view on the rear seat. The couple explained this away by saying the man’s dad was diabetic. But when police called Dad, he denied this and gave permission to search the car (which belonged to him). A patdown of the woman turned up a syringe and a needle. Both were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
