Thieves take more copper downspouts from St. Leonard's Church

February 24, 2007

Only days after reporting the theft of 20 feet of valuable copper downspouts from St. Leonard's Church, 3318 S. Clarence, thieves struck the building again, stealing at least six more. According to church employee Merced Gonzalez, large sections of copper were also damaged in failed attempts at theft.
Police have been watching the premises periodically since last week's report. The city of Berwyn is not the only place where copper theft occurs; over the past year, many Chicago suburbs have reported incidents of repeated theft of copper from buildings such as homes and churches.
