Suspicious car report nets drugs

Feb. 12, 2007, 9:09 AM
A Berwyn police officer responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near 26th and Wesley. The car, a maroon Ford Taurus, contained a woman in the front passenger seat, observed by the officer to be applying a lighter to a pipe. As the officer approached, he observed her trying to hide the pipe, causing an ivory-colored rock-like substance to fall out of it. The substance later field-tested positive for crack cocaine. The vehicle was towed and the woman and the driver, both of Chicago, were brought to the station, where the drugs, pipe and lighter were put into evidence. The driver was cited for having no insurance, driving without a license, no valid car registration and parking more than a foot from the curb. The two had earlier been reported wandering through a store in the 6600 block of 26th Street, appearing stoned.
