Violent pitbull attack on dog walked by boy

March 17, 2007, 5:14 PM
A dogfight in progress call brought police to 31st and Kenilworth, where they found an injured, bleeding dog. The dog, Buddy, was bitten and wounded, with a torn right ear, three jaw lacerations, his neck ripped open in four places, and a hip wound. Buddy was being walked by his owner, a 16-year-old boy. The boy said a male Hispanic approached them with a large pitbull on a short rope. After the vicious attack, the pitbull owner left the scene wearing a blue-and-white plaid jacket. Police learned the offender lived at 31st and Grove; there, they found the 25-year-old man with the pitbull, hiding in the basement of the building. The man has an active warrant from Will County. He was arrested and cited for having a dangerous animal. The dog was taken away to be held at a vet's office.
