Vandal caught when seen scrawling on a daycare

March 16, 2007, 11:34 AM
An employee of a daycare center in the 6300 block of 26th looked at the glass front door of the business and saw a male in a black hoody marking up that same door with silver paint. When the description went out to police, an officer spotted the suspect, took him into custody and showed him to the witness, who positively identified him. A patdown unearthed a marker that uses liquid silver paint and a 9-inch long knife. Upon arrest, the offender, an 18-year-old who lives in the 2400 block of Ridgeland with his mom and dad, admitted doing the silver graffiti of four initials and a long list of other ones in black paint for the past month or so. When asked why, he said, "I did it just to get known." Other victims of his urge for fame included the El Corral Tap and the Delta Auto Center on 26th; a Cermak road liquor store and many more.
