Drug dealer drives with one headlight and a really big knife

March 13, 2007, 11:16 PM
A black 1996 Old Aurora traveling south on Ridgeland was stopped at 26th for having a single headlight. The officer noticed a 15-inch-long black knife within the driver's reach and asked him to exit the car, whereupon the officer recovered the knife. The driver, a 23-year-old man living in the 800 block of North Humphrey in Oak Park, said he needs the knife for protection because he lives in a bad neighborhood. A strong marijuana smell came from the car. The driver was arrested and a search of the car revealed an electronic scale and a large bag of marijuana. The man was found to have two bags of weed in his pants pockets plus $120 in cash; he said he sold drugs to support his kids. He was cited for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession with intent to distribute, as well as for unlawful use of a weapon.
